Greetings brothers and sisters!
I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve for the third time this summer in Polacca, Arizona. For those of you unfamiliar with this area, Polacca is the tiny reservation set for Hopi Native Americans nestled within a much larger Navajo reservation. Minorities within a minority, the Hopi people are in a deep state of poverty and unemployment. This leads to a wealth of other problems on the reservation including widespread substance abuse, domestic violence, and suicide.
Upon meeting the Hopi, it was difficult for me to imagine that they struggled with these problems given how openly loving and graciously generous they are. However, by forming stronger relationships over the years, the need for hope and a hunger for great love are now incredibly apparent. What breaks my heart is their acceptance of the fact that they will spend the rest of their lives on the reservation as previous generations have before them. With little means for a promising future, their amazing gifts, beautiful characters, and endless potential lay to waste and the vicious cycle of poverty persists.
But Polacca is not hopeless. The resilience of the community members I have witnessed is humbling to say the least. However, it is my belief that our Father has much more in store for them than they could ever imagine: revival, healing, and deliverance. This is why we have been called and it is my greatest hope that He will use us to bring encouragement and serve His beloved children.
Our
team will be in Polacca from June 1-8 working with
the local church in various community projects and I hope you will
partner with us in our mission. Most importantly, I ask for
your prayers for the Hopi and our team. God is willing if
we would only call out to Him! And finally, if you are able, a
donation would be greatly appreciated, but please do not feel
obligated to do so as you even reading this is enough for me.
With thanks from the bottom of my heart,
Amy
