Dearest Friends and Family,
I am very excited to be returning once again to the Hopi reservation in Polacca, Arizona. It is there our team will be assissting Rev. Taeil Lim with his growing church and the selfless works him and his family have been doing in that community.
Many people know the plight of some Native American tribes here in the U.S. Unfortunately, if you are anything like me, your knowledge is limited to what you learned from school during U.S. History. It wasn't until I arrived in Hopiland and had the opportunity to meet so many of the locals and witnessed their culture first hand that I began to understand how disheartening reservation life can be. The average family lives well below the poverty line, college is a pipe dream and most of the people have accepted that they will live and die on the reservation without much in between. The Hopi people are so kind and warm despite their brokenness. I feel like I come from a culture where those who suffer from neglect lash out in bitterness and distance themselves from love whereas the people of Hopi find it in themselves to pour out the love they don't receive. It was this dichotomy that humbled and broke me. I am so blessed and loved but I still have the nerve to say it is difficult for me to love others.
This year our team will be continuing our summer VBS program for the children as well as starting construction on a deck that will surround a play area behind the church. In one short week we hope to show and give them the love and hope that comes as a result of a Christ filled life. It is our sincere hope that through our active engagement they will get to know how amazing our God is and accept Him as their Lord and Savior.
Friends, I need your help first and foremost in prayer and secondly in finances. I am blessed and thankful just to have you in my life so please do not feel obligated.
Thank you for your time.
In Him,
Krys
